A number of MBS parishioners, along with many pilgrims from the Diocese of Green Bay, joined 60,000 other Catholics at the National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis July 17-21, 2024. Our parish Director of Liturgy and Encounter, Maria Grygleski, shared about the experience along with a few key takeaways for our parish. I was blessed to be able to attend the National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis last week as 60,000 Catholics gathered to worship Jesus in the Eucharist and become ambassadors of Eucharistic revival for the Church.
The Congress included daily Mass, adoration, powerful and formational talks given by renowned Catholic speakers, a Eucharistic procession in the streets of downtown Indy; it was an experience like no other. It was a foretaste of heaven to simply be together.
I was struck by a preeminent sense of unity among the Catholic Church in our country, a unity that seemed to echo, “We belong to each other because we first belong to Christ”.
A thread of conviction and zeal was interwoven throughout these five days. We were gathered for a very distinct purpose…Eucharistic revival.
And how is this accomplished? The key to Eucharistic revival is not implementing the perfect program or process. Rather, the key to Eucharistic revival is each soul personally returning to Jesus Christ for continual encounter, conversion and sanctification… Each soul repenting and humbly opening their heart to being brought to new life in Him…Each soul allowing Him to lead and allowing Him to be Lord.
Eucharistic revival in our country must begin by remaining with Jesus in our own hearts. All else flows from this.
The Holy Spirit is upon the Church in a particular way in this present moment. In a time when the world is becoming increasingly hostile toward Christianity, we are called ever more to stand firm on the foundation of Christ. To follow Him is, more and more, becoming a conscious choice. Gone are the days of lazy river Christianity!
The Lord is eager to give us the graces we need to advance His Good News in a world that is desperate to hear it. I am eager to see the ways that the Lord will bless our parish and bring about a new springtime in our hearts as Year 3 of the Eucharistic Revival has just begun.
