Lawrence Mroczkowski and Sarah Hafemeister two of your students/parishioners, were recently awarded the Spirit of Kateri Award here at Camp Tekakwitha. This is a rare honor amongst campers here and I’m certain the formation Lawrence + Sarah have received in your community played no small part in winning this award.
This summer, our theme was ABLAZE, encouraging all campers and staff to find what fuels the fire of their faith, feed the fire, and share it with those around them. St. Kateri Tekakwitha, our patroness, embodied this in her everyday life. As a young child, Kateri’s community was very against the faith, but she found simple ways to pray, which in turn, dictated the decisions she made, choosing to care for the forgotten and eventually to be baptized and give her whole life to Jesus. She was so on fire for Jesus, that she inspired a deeper devotion to many people around her. Our prayer is for each one of our campers to leave Camp with hearts set ablaze with the love of Christ and a desire to share that fire with others and Lawrence + Sarah lead by example here doing just that here at Camp.
