The Outreach Mission Team continues to work with St. Vincent DePaul on referrals for rent and/or utility assistance. Typically, an individual will call the Parish Office seeking assistance. We obtain some initial information and when applicable, we connect them to SVDP for potential help. Sometimes SVDP will reach out to MBS to say they have covered a portion of the rent or utilities and ask if MBS can cover the remaining amount. This process allows the verification process to take place on the SVDP side of things so when MBS steps in, we know exactly how your Almsgiving funds are being used. Occasionally we will work with Salvation Army or Casa Esther in a very similar fashion. We always try to partner with other community resources whenever possible.
Your monthly donations to the bins at our worship sites have helped us to restock many of the items in our St. Peter’s Caring Closet. This is the pantry created to help meet some of the needs of the students at WIT/WIN Academy as well as their families. A few items will need to be purchased prior to the beginning of the school year, but that will mainly be snacks for the children to choose as a monthly reward and some hygiene products. Clothing and household supplies are already on hand thanks to you!
Last year the students held a brainstorming session to come up with a name for the pantry. Some great ideas were suggested but the kids ultimately decided on St. Peter’s Caring Closet. Signage has been ordered and should be on the pantry door in the next week or two.
We’ve accumulated an overflow of inventory on some of the household items we’ve been collecting over the past year. It really isn’t enough to begin a second “community” pantry but there is enough to share. The team has been thinking about how we can develop a specific focus for these items. We are happy to announce that we will be partnering with the Tiny House Village of Oshkosh to welcome new residents with a laundry basket of essentials to set them up for success in their new homes. If you are interested in being a part of this ministry, please let us know … we need more help!
