Parish Council Discernment

Thank you to everyone who came to the Parish Pastoral Council discernment on April 22nd & who discerned and shared the name of someone you thought would be a good candidate for our parish council.

It seemed like a positive experience for everyone involved, and I am feels confident that the Holy Spirit brought us the right people. The parish will offer formation for the new members in June. We are stilll waiting for responses from everyone he has invited, and will announce the new council members and their roles, when they are seated in July.

Treasurer Trustee Elections

Our parish's current Treasurer Trustee, Dave Van Spankeren, has reached the end of his 2 year term. Dave was elected in 2021.

It is time to elect our Parish Treasurer Trustee for the next two fiscal years. This person should be an active and responsible missionary disciple from our parish who can serve as an advisor and counselor. The Trustee is part of the corporate board, serves on the Finance council, and via the Finance Council assists the pastor in the handling of all financial aspects of the parish.

Father will have information about the nominees for the parish to consider at Masses in May, and voting will occur Pentecost Weekend.

What is the Treasurer Trustee?

The treasurer trustee assists the pastor/parish director to assure the keeping of accurate and detailed accounts of all receipts and disbursements for the parish. Many parishes have paid staff who carry out these accounting functions.

The treasurer trustee’s particular area of responsibility is that of assisting the pastor/parish director in parish financial activities, including the care and custody of funds, assets, supervision of banking, credit and insurance. The treasurer trustee is a member of the finance council and receives minutes of the pastoral council..

Wisconsin state law requires that the trustee be elected by the members of the congregation. The term of office is two years. There is no legal limit to the number of terms a trustee may serve.

What are the requirements for a treasurer trustee?

Be parish members, practicing Catholic and at least 25 years of age.
Have previous experience on Pastoral Council, Finance Council or a Standing Committee.
Be educated about the position or be willing to attend training from the Diocese.
Familiarity with Parish Council Council, Financial Management and Committees Manuals
Possess traits, qualities and experience to effectively carry out the various duties and responsibilities of position
Demonstrate commitment to the mission of the parish and passion for building a culture of intentional discipleship at Most Blessed Sacrament Parish.

Note: Parish staff and permanent deacons are not eligible to serve as trustees.

What are the responsibilities of the Treasurer Trustee?

Represents the parish as a member of the parish corporation.
Assists the pastor/parish director in the coordination and maintenance of accurate and detailed accounts of all receipts and disbursements of parish funds following the Diocesan Chart of Accounts for reporting operations of the parish.
Reviews and signs all checks for disbursements of parish funds as needed.
Assists the pastor/parish director in the collection of parish contributions, special collections and parish investments.
Reviews the annual parish budget together with the pastor/parish director.
Assists the pastor/parish director in assuring the preparation of financial reports to the parish and to the diocese.
Signs the annual financial report to the diocese.
Serves as a full member of the finance council and receives the parish pastoral council minutes.
Assists the pastor/parish director in overseeing the temporal matters of the parish cemetery..

How do I nominate someone?

Ten registered Parishioners over the age of 18 must support and sign the nomination of a candidate. Fill out the nomination form below and get 10 signatures. Then submit your nomination form to the parish office no later than Monday, May 8.
